What food do you think is good for your heart?
This week I have been really thinking healthier foods. Not ones that are complicated to find, but trying to incorporate the ones you can find at your typical grocery store. I think so many foods that are in the outter perimeters of the grocery store are your heart healthy foods, especially your lean proteins and your rich produce like leafy greens and colorful veggies and fruits. Guess I will have to watch tonights Mamavation show with Special Guest: David Grotto (@DdavidGrotto), author of “101 Foods That Could Save Your Life” to see if I am correct.
The week before last I was terrible, drank soda everyday, ate junk food, wasn't planning any meals, and did not exercise at all! I told myself Sunday that come Monday(last one) I was going to get moving, and I even planned the weeks meals. They were not anything super healthy...even planned chicken wings and homemade mac n cheese for the superbowl. I decided I was gonig to really do it this week. I did ok Monday, but went another day with out exercise because as my oldest woke up she started throwing up...which led to her going to the ER having seizures. I however hurried and got the meal done that I prepared and as I walked out the door for the ER I grabbed a piece of fruit and cheese to hold me over. I did eat dinner late, but by grabbing that quick snack it helped.
Tuesday rolled around...I got my Wii workout in, and ate good. Then my sister emailed me with an invite for a 21 Day Mom Bloggers Weight loss challenge. This has been great for me. At first I thought I didnt want to do it because I thought I had to follow a very specific diet in foods that I didnt really enjoy. However for the challenge we can do whatever diet and exercise we want...but Dustin Maher gave the participants an copy of his book, Fit Moms For Life, and a workout that we could use to incorporate. This got me thinking healthy foods, and motivate.
So I dont know if it is accurate...but I always went by my Wii balance board for my scale before. This week the wii scale is telling me I lost 5.3lbs! Now I did weigh myself in the evening last time, and morning this time...So I am going to guess it is around a 3lb loss. I will take 3 lbs thought! I am pretty excited. I exercised 5 days last week....and no super long workouts. I did some Wii fit on Tuesday, Strength training from the challenge Wed., some strength training holding 20lb Lauren on Thurs., the cardio/core workout from the challenge on Fri., and the strength training again Sat. I took yesterday as a rest day.
Yesterday I planned my dinners again for the week. On the days it is a fattier meat option, I am going to lower my portion or substitute those things. My husband buys a cow every year to 18months...so we tend to have a lot of beef. So that is why I still plan those a few days a week. I think I did good substituting last nights chicken wings and mac n cheese. You can click here to go to my post for last nights take on the meal. I look at calories, but I am not really counting them. I am for now trying to keep think about those calories, watch my portions, and am always trying to do a carb and a protein together. I am journaling everything for this 21 days....I think this keeps me accountable and I can look back and see what is working and where I can make changes.
So I am off to check out our new Mamavation Moms...and maybe even get some ideas from them. I wish them all luck, as well as all the sistas! I really like seeing those of you on facebook.
