Question: What does “wellness” mean to you?
To me wellness means that you are either fairly healthy, or improving your health. For me I am trying to improve my health by losing weight, exercising and eating healthy. I started out this week kind of crappy. My son was sick, then my husband was too. I spent Tuesday at the hospital with the girls as Kennedy had an all day appointment. I seemed to have headaches just about every night. Then I got my new workout program in the mail, and things started looking better.
I have started the New Mommy Makeover. This is a three phase postnatal program, created by Colleen Riddel(AFPA Certified Pre/Post Natal Exercise Specialist). It has three dvds, one for each different phase. These dvds come with 3 workouts, that I will be doing each workout during the week, for one month each. Then Colleen Riddel suggests doing at least 2 interval workouts and 1 day of any 30 minute cardio exercise that you like. She sent me an email with pdf files of a Nutritional Guide(by Mary D. Brown, MS, RD, LDN of Budding Baby & Nutrition Specialists, LLC), Fat Blasting Cardio Workouts(the interval workouts), Short on Time 10 minute workout, and information on Diastisis Recti (the separation of the abdominal wall).
I didn't end up starting this until Friday, but I weighed myself Thursday before my 6 week postpardum appointment, and as of today I have already lost 2.2lbs! Pretty good for three days of working out, and eating better. I have done two of the phase 1 dvd workouts, and one other 30 workout (I did some wii fit, and wii golds gym cardio boxing). I really like the dvd workouts! Colleen Riddel takes her time, and shows you how to do the exercises properly. She reminds you to tuck in your abdominals and makes references to squeezing a lemon or ball during the exercises. She really makes you focus on which muscle group you are using. She also informs you on when to exhale and inhale. She breaks the workouts up into phases themself, by having you do sets of arms, legs, core, and a heart rate booster. You do two sets, and then take a water break, and then you go back to do two new sets. She never rushes anything, and I like how the dvd actually has the water break built in. The first workout seemed a little easy to me, but the second was a little harder. She also gives you suggestions on doing the exercises differently or adding/increasing weights if the exercises are easy for you. I really enjoy these, and feel them working already. I am looking forward to continuing these, and slowly increasing the intensity as my muscles get stronger.
I am still reading the nutritional guide. As of Friday I once again cut out soda. I have cut my portions, and am trying to eat healthier. I have limited my snacking to healthy options like a small portion of nuts/dried berries, fresh fruit or veggies, or whole grain items. While I love my cereals I have been making sure to only have one serving and have started adding in some fresh fruit. I feel better already, and feel like I can stick to this having a good workout program to back me up. I know I need both to feel energized and motivated to stick with a healthy lifestyle.
disclosure: The New Mommy Makeover dvds were provided to me free to review. These are my personal opinions on the product. I am also linking to Earth Footwear and participating in the blogging carnival as an entry to win a product from Earth Footwear.
