Fitness Friday- Calorie Count free App

>
I unfortunately do not have an Iphone or Ipod touch, so have not used the  Calorie Count app.  but have come across so many people asking about these types of Apps that I thought I would pass along this information.

The Calorie Count App can be used to quickly/easily search the foods you encounter while on-the-go and help you make better diet decisions (i.e. a mocha latte vs. an iced coffee). Did you know President Obama's recently passed healthcare reform will require all restaurants with 20 or more chains to post calorie counts and nutritional information on their menus? In the meantime, we have the Calorie Count App!

This app is a free, downloadable diet tool that allows users to track and manage weight, search and log nutritional data, popular exercises and healthy recipes all while on-the-go...a time when critical dieting decisions are often made. Essentially, the Calorie Count App serves as an all-in-one diet coach, nutritionist and workout trainer!

The Calorie Count App is available at no cost for both existing and new users through the Apple App Store.

~Tools to view current and past food, activity and weight logs including a graph of your weight history.

~More than 150 low-calorie recipes from About.com (www.about.com), selected by Calorie Count's registered dietitian, Mary Hartley. This interface allows users to select recipes based on course, food group and dietary considerations.

Wonder Hanger

>
Giveaway closed.
Congratulations Stacey!

Wonder Hanger
The Wonder Hanger® is an affordable tool that's great for any Spring Cleaning features. This cascading clothes organizer increases closet space by enabling you to stack clothes vertically. Each Wonder Hanger holds 5 wood, metal or plastic hangers. There are 8 hangers to a package – enough to hang 40 garments. The open-mouth design allows you to easily add or remove your jackets, skirts, pants and shirts. Supporting up to 20 pounds, it can hold up to 5 heavy winter jackets.

You can use it to group complete outfits or similar items, organize by color or season, and hang handbags or belts. It retails for $9.99 and can be purchased at major retail chains including Walmart, Target, Bed Bath and Beyond and CVS and online at www.buywonderhanger .com.
Wonder Hanger

My thoughts:

At first I was a little skeptical that the Wonder Hanger really would make that much difference in space.  I have pants hangers and they still seem to take up a lot of space even though they overlap one another similar to the wonder hanger.  However after putting my clothes on the Wonder Hanger I realized how much space it really did save.  I now have room to hang more....guess I can go shopping!

The Wonder Hanger was simple to use and can hold 5 items on one hanger.  It keeps them spaced out enough the items do not get all wrinkled.  I love it for my clothes as I hang all my shirts and pants.

I also love it for my coat closet.  My coat closet was so disorganized before as I have a bunch of bags I was keeping at the bottom of the closet and a lot of coats.  I was pleasantly surprised at how much space I now have by hanging all my cooler bags and coats using the Wonder Hangers.  I also thought it was great as it held a very heavy suede jacket with out any problems, as well as 4 other coats on the same Wonder Hanger.  This is making my closet much more organized by putting seasonal items together.  The coats also stay better instead of falling off the hangers.

Here is a video of my coat closet.  I typically have all the cooler bags laying on the floor of the closet, and all the coats spread out taking up most of the hanging space.

*adding a little note today (day after hanging suede jacket)....This morning I found the WonderHanger that was holding the heavier jackets on the floor.  The one side looked a bit stretched out, so I am thinking the suede jacket that I had on it was just too heavy.  I weighed myself with the jacket and seems the jacket might only be 5lbs.  So not necessarily confident about the weight limit for the Wonder Hanger....but then again the hanger might have gotten knocked down from my son.  I am just not positive...so I wanted to share this with my readers.

One lucky reader can win a Wonder Hanger set!  To enter: tell me what items you most need to save space with by using the Wonder Hanger. ( 1 mandatory entry)

#Mamavation Monday

>

This is week three of the Earthfootwear sponsored challenge on Mamavation, Move it and lose it!  I once again moved it, and lost a little.  Not as big of a loss as last week, but I did not push myself as much either.  I walked 6 days this past week.  Most days were on the ledge view trail that is half uphill(up the ledge) and is about 4 miles.  I love walking this trail.  It was nice all week, until the weekend hit and then it rained.  So Saturday I did a walk with Leslie Sansone Dvd and Sunday I took as my rest day.  I only got in one other workout this week on my Wii fit.  So for exercise my goal this week is to continue with my walks and get in at least 3 days of other workouts.

Food....ugh.  That was where I went off track this past week.  Last Wednesday I ended up eating chips and some ice cream.  I really need to put into effect the tools I am learning from Pete Cohen, weight loss guru.  I then made a couple more fattening dishes this weekend having steak and mashed potatoes one night, chicken with fries Sat. and lasagna yesterday.  I also never got 7-8 servings of fruits or veggies in at all last week.  The most I got was 6 a few days.  So my food goal this week is to plan less fattening meals, and to get in the fruits and veggies everyday! One way to do this is by getting in some Chiquita Bananas or some of their new products  I am also trying to cut back more on sugar and one way is by not eating cereal everyday.  So I am trying to only allow myself to have cereal every other day by having eggs, oatmeal, or wheat pancakes.

Anyways...there are my successes failures and goals for this week.  As for my stats I am down about 3/4 of a pound this week.
Stats:  173.9 (-3/4lb)
Last week 174.6
down 3lbs from 1 month ago
down 55lbs since 1/09

My Job Chart...free online chore chart

>
Do you want an easy and free way to keep track of your children's chores...and an easy way for them to track it also?

My Job Chart is a free online Chore Chart that teaches kids to work in a fun and productive way. Using an easy and fun online system, My Job Chart inspires kids to do their chores on time. An interactive point system tracks your child's progress, creating excitement and enthusiasm among kids. And the fully customizable chore chart allows you and your child to decide upon mutually determined rewards, fostering communication and developing responsibility. You even get an email or text message when your kids finish their chores or they earn a reward!

I set up my free family account, which was so easy to do, and started assigning chores.  Every family member can sign in and see what there chores are, and see when they are done and get a reward!  I think this is great because there is a huge list of common chores, and then you can assign them to be done everyday, or specific days.  This is great for us for having children that are only here every other weekend.  They can see what is expected while they are here...and plan ahead of time.

I think my son will really like seeing his rewards and will be a good way to encourage him to complete his chores.

Go create your own online chore chart for your family by going to

disclosure: by posting this information I will be entered into a contest to win a gift card.

Mamavation Monday

>
This week we congratulate the new Mamavation Moms Kim, @mentallyinked and Rachel_L !!!  Hope you two are having a great week and enjoying your butt kicking!  Many of the applicants(that didnt make it) are also doing a challenge, the move it and lose it challenge sponsored by Earthfootwear.  I have been making some great connections with some of those Moms plus others on twitter and have gotten so much support this week.  Which is probably one of the reasons I have done so great this week!  I have lost 3.5 pounds this week!!!  I have been trying to keep track of my calories more vs. just doing a food journal.  I still need to watch some high calorie items, but have been eating pretty healthy.  I have been doing great with my exercise!  I have exercised 6 days this week at a minimum of 45min. a day.  My total workout time this week was just over 6.5 hours!  Typically I would do a Wii workout and some sort of walk.  I have been really liking a 4 mile trail near home....maybe this week I will get a little video of it.  It also helped that it was pretty nice out all week which helped keep me motivated to go for the walks.  This week is supposed to be sunny too so I should have a great week again!

Also dont forget to check out mamavation for information on tonights twitter party with Bob Greene and all whites eggs and the mamavation tv after.

Stats:
from last week down 3.5lbs
from last month down 3.5lbs
from 1/09 down total of 54.5lbs!

Storytime Sunday: Bailey's Day

>
Bailey's Day by Robert Haggerty

ISBN: 978-1-4327-4550-9
Publisher: Outskirts Press
Date of publish: Jan 2010
Pages: 46
S.R.P.: $17.95

About the book:
Bailey's Day tells the tale of Bailey,a black and white pointer, hooking up with her best friend, the wiener dog Frankie. All goes well with their visit to the swimming pool, their romp through the park, and their feast of tacos with Pete, The Taco Man, until  Bailey suddenly runs into her owner, the mailman, out on his rounds.

About the Author:
Robert Haggerty lives in Tucson, Arizona, and has been a mailman for more than twenty years. Bailey's Day is his first children's book.

My thoughts:
Bailey's Day was a cute story telling us what we all wonder happens when we are gone and the mischief that our pets get into.  I loved that the story was based on real pets and people.  The story is fun and goes through a whole day.  I think it is an easy one for beginning readers to read and comprehend.  It is also a fun one for younger children to be read to.  My daughter really thought it was funny.

The illustrations, by Bobbi Switzer were really cute.  They really portraited the characters well and showed the fun they had throughout the day.  I loved that the story was told with illustrations, yet the author shared home photos of Bailey and all the things he enjoys through the day.  That brought even more of the dogs character to life!

Forget Me Not by Vicki Hinze

>
Giveaway closed.
Congratulations Horton111!

About the Book:
Crossroads Crisis Center owner Benjamin Brandt was a content man—in his faith, his work, and his family. Then in a flash, everything he loved was snatched away. His wife and son were murdered, and grief-stricken Ben lost faith. Determination to find their killers keeps him going, but after three years of dead ends and torment, his hope is dying too. Why had he survived? He’d failed to protect his family.

Now, a mysterious woman appears at Crossroads seeking answers and help—a victim who eerily resembles Ben’s deceased wife, Susan. A woman robbed of her identity, her life, of everything except her faith—and Susan’s necklace.
The connections between the two women mount, exceeding coincidence, and to keep the truth hidden, someone is willing to kill. Finding out who and why turns Ben and the mystery woman’s situation from dangerous to deadly. Their only hope for survival is to work together, trust each other, and face whatever they discover head on, no matter how painful. But will that be enough to save their lives and heal their tattered hearts?

About the Author:
Vicki Hinze is an award-winning author of twenty-three novels, three nonfiction books, and hundreds of articles. Selected for Who’s Who in America in 2004 as a writer and educator, Hinze is active in Romance Writers of America and serves as a Vice President on the International Thriller Writers Board of Directors. Vicki lives in Florida with her artist husband, a retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel. Visit www.vickihinze.com to learn more about Vicki’s books, blogs, and writing programs.

My thoughts:Forget Me Not will have you pulled into the story right from the beginning.  It is suspenceful all along the way.  There were a lot of characters and Vicki Hinze pulled them all together well.  I loved the main characters and the strength they found in themselves and each other.  I really liked that she brought God and faith into the story and that there was the message of trusting in God.  I thought this was a great story and would definitely read more novels by Vicki Hinze.

I dont suggest going on a busy day, like we did, a quieter day would have been excellent....but we wanted the twins to go and to go while my parents were visitting so we went on Good Friday while all the schools were off that day.

Zach was tired in the beginning and really didnt want to look around...then Kennedy was running a fever and started having seizure activity due to the fever.  We did have some fun though.

Zach loved this wave simulator area.
We all liked watching the playful penguins trying to untie the ladies suit while she was cleaning the window.
This was cool watching the dolphins line up on and just sit at the bottom of the tank.
Here the dolphin is upside down playing in some bubbles another dolphin made

Gotta love the suspense of a shark swimming towards you!

Proactive review

>

Recently I had the opportunity to try out the Proactive 3 step system.  The three steps in this are 1.Cleanse 2. Tone and 3. Treat.  This was a simple system to use.  I would wash my face, shoulders and chest with the Proactive renewing cleanser, rinse and pat dry.  Once dry I used the Proactive Revitalizing Toner by placing a small amount on a pad and applied to face, shoulders and chest.  After allowing that to dry I then used the Repairing Treatment.

The first time I used this my face was a little sore.  The cleanser stings a bit and made my face a little red.  The Revitalizing Toner felt nice and cool.  The repairing treatment felt like I was applying lotion.

My results after using this for a few weeks:  I had an overall cleaner face, especially my nose.  It really eliminated the black areas that are hard to remove from my nose.  I also did not need lotion while using this, as my skin really didnt get dried out.  This was a nice change.  I have in the past only used a cleanser and then needed to apply a lot of lotion.

I however did not see much of a change with blemishes.  I pretty much got as many pimples and they lasted about the same amount of time.  I also received their refining mask.  I used this overnight on my pimples.  It would dry them up quicker, but did not remove them or make them lighter.

One other product I tried was their Green Tea Moisturizer.  I love this!  I used this for a few days before starting the 3 step system.  It felt really light and smooth and had a great scent.

disclosure:  I received a free 3 step system to review.

What a great combo!  I have never played Pictureka but cant wait to try it.  I have however tried the Pillsbury Pizza crusts several times and really like using them to make homemade pizza.  They taste great and rise nicely!  They even have a thin or thick crust depending on your liking.  I like them both.  We love pizza night...it is one meal I know my picky son will love.  We like to rent movies or play some cards.  So we cant wait to try out the "Family Pizza Party" pack.  My son loves helping to make the pizzas at home and has fun putting on the cheese and his favorite, pepperoni.  We of course have to make slices differently as well all like different toppings.  Some of us love mushrooms, while others hate them.  I love lots of veggies and my husband and son are simple pepperoni pizza lovers.

Growing up my family were huge pizza lovers....we love all kinds...I always loved Fridays when my father would go bowling and then we would get pizza to take home.  We still do pizza very often and the whole family gets together for pizza nights.  How about yours?

Mamavation Monday

>
So tonight the two Mamavation Moms will be announced at the #mamavation twitter party....7-9pm central time.  Im hoping to be one of those, but if I didnt make it dont worry I am still planning on busting my butt!  I will not let any of my supporters down and plan to keep trying to reach my goal of losing 15lbs by June!

If it isnt late...you may still have time to vote for me....@colleen_mouse at Mamavation.

Earth footwear is doing another challenge for all the applicants that did not make it to the final two...."Move it & Lose it" challenge.  The applicant that loses the biggest percentage can win $500 cash and a pair of earth footwear shoes and second place can win a pair of Earth Footwear shoes!  How awesome is that of them!  So for this we will need to post weekly with our weight, and will have to share our starting and ending measurements and pictures....So here is my stuff for this challenge.

Week #1 weight: 178(I keep track on Wii...which is typically 2lbs lighter than scale, but this is how I have tracked for the past year)

Week #1 measurements:
bust 42 1/2"
waist 36"
hips 42"
thighs 25 3/4"
arms R14 3/4" L14 1/2"

This week my goal is to workout ...and to really boost those workouts!  I need to get more extreme and make myself feel the burn!  My stepdaughters had me go out walking and jogging this weekend.  My goal is to keep doing a specific walk uphill and try to run the rest downhill.  I am hoping to be able to make it the whole way downhill within the next couple of weeks.  The total is about 4miles...2 miles up 2 miles down.  Then if I can make that I am going to start trying to run uphill too...or at least do some intervals of running/walking.

I also need to stay away from the junkfood.  This past week wasnt so hot with all the Easter candy around. I actually gained this week..and am not happy I gave in so much to the temptations.  So I have told everyone that I am on a strict no junk diet the next couple months!   I went grocery shopping and restocked on healthier options. Gotta give a shout out to Subway Fresh Buzz!!!!  MMMM love Subway...they are my absolute favorite sub shop...and guess what....they now serve breakfast!!!  I can not wait to try their egg white muffin melt.  It just sounds so yummy!  Subway is my most favorite way to eat a healthy meal on the go...It is probably one of the only fast foods my husband will even eat...and the only bread he will eat!  I loved reading the interview of Jared by Leah.  Jared is awesome!  I want to be like Jared!

I want to really thank Judy, Shawn and MaryAnn for really showing support online and posting to get some votes for me.  I also want to thank all my family, friends and blog readers for all the votes!!!  Thank you!!!!  You will all continue to see a new me...and I hope I can support all of you like you have supported me!

Storytime Sunday: The Raindrop

>
Illustrations by Buddy Plumlee

As it is getting closer to Earth Day, I thought reading The Raindrop was a great fit.  The Raindrop is a story of a raindrop that felt sad and worthless.  It didnt understand its place in the world.  The story goes through the raindrops journey and purpose.  This was a great story to teach the readers how the rain helps everything grow.  The story was great in describing all the functions of the rain.  It also had a great figurative story that everyone has a purpose in the world.  I think this would be a great story for Earth Day, or anyday.  Although it talks a little about God I think it would be great for most religions.

A raindrop seems like a hard thing to draw going through its journey, but illustrator Buddy Plumlee did a great job describing it.  The illustrations are colorful and show the different ways the raindrop is shown.  The story itself is a rhyming story, but not too much, which is great to keep to the sometimes serious side of the story.

The Raindrop is from Brian D. McClure's book collection and at the ends discusses his creation of the universal flag, which represents our connection with everyone and everything that exists in the world.  (You can learn more at http://www.universalflag.com/  )

disclosure:  I received this book for free to review.
