Mommalicious Monday

>
Well I sit typing today at Childrens hospital.  Friday night Kennedy woke up throwing up, and did this for a few hours.  She rested for a bit after and got up at 6am.  Her head was shaky.  I thought it was sleep deprivation and would go away after she took a nap.  The day went on...no napping...still shaking.  The shaking started to get more intense...then I noticed eye fluttering.  The eye fluttering got more pronounced so I decided to bring her to the ER.  She fell asleep on the way there and I thought maybe she would wake up fine and it would be a wasted trip...No such luck.  When we got there I noticed what had to be definite seizure activity.  Head was still shaking constantly...eyes fluttery at times...and now her head and shoulder did rhythmic jerks.  So she got some rescue meds and it pretty much got rid of the activity.  She fell asleep around midnight...soundly...but unfortunatly was awaken by pokes.  Her temp got low and she was shivering.  Most likely this was from the med, but they had to take tests to make sure.  Its now 1pm.  She had an EEG a little while ago...waiting for results...although the tech thinks it pretty much showed that she is pretty sedated still, so we might end up doing another at a later time.  I think we will be here another night...they want to see how she does when the meds wear off.  I had a feeling the other morning that the vomitting episodes she has had this month meant seizures were waiting to come out.  I really think there is a connections and that her vomitting is a symptom of her seizures, not a cause.  So we sit and wait.  Lets pray its nothing more than just a breakthough and we can get them under control again!

I am also hoping we will be home tomorrow.  Zach's first day of kindergarten is Wednesday and I would feel much better being home putting him on the bus.  I am also thinking maybe to have Kennedy just do 3 days like last year instead of 4 like I was thinking.  We will see how the week goes.  I will have her stay home this week.

So we have had an interesting week...besides what is going on with the kids...we also had a week ourselves.  We were selling a 4 wheeler and had it ready to go...the night before it was supposed to get picked up...someone stole it out of our front yard.  We reported it, but most likely wont see it again.  We were going to use that money to buy one for Zach.  Bob decided he didnt want him to lose out, so he got him his new one anyways.  He loves it and loves wearing his fancy helmet.  I have pics, but they will have to wait until I am home.

Storytime Sunday: Author Shelly Nicholson

>

I had the pleasure of reading "A Stinky Surprise for Jake the Snake". This is a great book for early readers. I think my nephews would love it. It sounds like it comes straight from the mind of a young boy!
"A Stinky Surprise for Jake the Snake"..."Jake the Snake is having the “worstest” year of his whole entire life. With an “all day kind of school,” a scary school nurse, a new first grade teacher, plus a stinky new baby; how could things get any worse? All Jake the Snake wants is a shiny new bicycle. Except Mom is too busy decorating for the stinky baby to go shopping for a snazzy bike with dangly streamers. When Jake the Snake barfs all over the clean floor on the first day of school and has to visit scary Nurse Pickadilly, he is sure life couldn’t get any worse. That is, until Grandma Nelson announces that Mom and Dad have gone to the hospital to get the stinky baby! Find out what other stinky surprise is in store for Jake the Snake in this hilarious second release."

Today I have the pleasure of having Author, Shelly Nicholson as a guest post as part of a blog tour for her release of "A Stinky Surprise for Jake the Snake".

Recently, while attending a writer’s workshop, these were some
questions asked by an attendee: "Where would you recommend I write? Should I set
up an office space in my home? Should I set aside a specific time each
day?"

My routine is to write anywhere and everywhere. I have a
laptop, so it moves with me from living room, to dining room, to bedroom. I even
jot down ideas that pop into my head on any scrap of paper. One stormy day, I
wrote the following poem on the back of an old telephone bill in a gas station
parking lot while waiting for my husband…

RUMBLE! RUMBLE!

By: Shelly Faith Nicholson

The cold air clashes with the warm
What happens next? A
thunderstorm
A flood of raindrops beat the ground
They ping and patter a
soothing sound
The clouds turn gray; they groan and grumble
Thunder!
Boom! And Rumble, Rumble!
Bolts of electricity light up the sky
Like a
rocket display on the fourth of July
The wind blows that way, to the North
The sun peeks out, its rays shine forth
It’s quiet now, the skies turn
blue
The earth’s been quenched and made anew.

It’s great to have a quiet place in your home to write. A
home office space would be ideal. But when an idea pops into your head, don’t
worry about where you are! Jot it down, no matter the hour or location. I often
wake up in the middle of the night to write down my own ideas. Otherwise, I
might forget!

My books Jake the Snake and the Stupid Time-Out Chair and A
Stinky Surprise for Jake the Snake were inspired by my seven-year-old son,
Jacob. My memories worked as a journal when I began writing these books. And, oh
boy! Did I have a lot of memories! I integrated real life occurrences (swinging
on the chandelier, building a life-sized wooden action doll for a Kindergarten
sweetheart, and creating a laundry detergent sandcastle) along with some purely
fictional stories into my Jake the Snake books. I LOVE writing about this
character! I would describe Jake the Snake as an adorably ornery kid who’s not
always so confident, but who has a very good heart and always comes out on top
in the end. My "Jake the Snake" early chapter books are perfect for getting
young readers interested in reading through laugh-out-loud humor and realistic
situations. Inspiration for most of my stories comes from my four fun kids. If
you are aspiring to write, look around you for inspiration! Find a quiet place,
if you must. But better yet, carry a notepad wherever you go and jot down your
own inspired ideas!

Happy Writing and Happy Reading!  Shelly Nicholson

Through The Fire by Shawn Grady

>

In this suspenseful story, an arsonist is targeting Reno.  Firefighter Aidan O'Neill has to find out who he can trust while trying to fight the fires, and keep his life together.  It seems as things are falling apart for him things start to heat up in the city.  While Aidan is typically overconfident, accidents have left him with out that confidence and  realizing he has to put his faith in God to help him overcome his fears.  This debut novel by Shawn Grady is outstanding.  He puts the readers right in the action and keeps you wondering "who did it".  The suspense is never ending.  The one thing this novel has that some other suspense novels lack, is faith.  Shawn Grady does a wonderful job pulling in the emotions of the characters and the acceptance to trust God and have faith in his actions.

Today my heart is breaking for one of the familys that I have been following the past year. They had two little girls and expecting a third.  Their little one Marie had a type of mito, called Leighs disease.   I have been following their joys and struggles.  Yesterday I witnessed both of these.  Thursday they welcomed a new baby girl into their family, Sarah.  Sarah met her big sisters that night.  Sadly Friday morning, Marie made her journey home, carried by Jesus.  She passed away in her sleep.  My heart is just aching for them.  Please send some prayers for their family!

Happy Birthday Hubby!

Happy Birthday Babe!!!

Mommalicious Monday

>
So today is Bob's birthday. We dont really have any plans, so it will probably just be a regular day around here. I have to bring Zach to his last speech therapy appointment and run some errands. I would like to get Bob something for his birthday, but I honestly have no clue what to even get him. He is that kind of person that doesnt want tons of stuff and what he does want he goes out and gets.
Last week was pretty quiet. Zach had his kindergarten round up, which wasnt all that useful to me. Both the kids have open house this Wednesday..so we will go to those and drop off supplies, pay fees and say hi to the teachers. I am sure Kennedy will be excited to see her teachers and maybe some classmates. She also has a doctors appointment earlier that day. We will be busy.
Yesterday we had a good day. The kids and I got up and going early on and went to a little zoo and park with our neighbors. The zoo was good, as the kids liked checking out the animals. The park was way too crazy for us. It is the type that has mazes and climbing structures everywhere...so 4 kids and 2 adults isnt enough. You need an adult per child. We were going crazy with nervousness that the kids were taking off on us and were going to get lost...so we ditched the place. Zach went outside immediatly after going home...no luck of him falling asleep like the neighbors! He played outside for a while and then came in and took a bath. Shortly after, Dad decided to go out on the boat and Zach went with him. He stayed out a couple hours and I picked him up. He was grubby again and got another soak in the tub. He had a fun day...but he definitly wants to be moving..dont stop for too long!

Storytime Sunday: Who Made the World?

>

Are your children or grandchildren asking "Who made the world?", "How long did it take?" "What did God make first?". If so, the new Little Blessings book "Who Made the World" written by Kathleen Bostrom, would be a great addition to your library. This book can help young children understand the Christian answers to their questions. The story starts out with the children asking those questions. "You've asked some great questions-you sound very smart! Now open your bible. See there, at the start, are some of the answers to the questions you seek. And now, turn the page-it is God's turn to speak!" Then their questions are answered. The story is cute and very child friendly. It has rhyming text to draw the kids in and adorable illustrations. The illustrations are full of color, action and emotion. My son loved looking through the pictures and checking out all the things God made. My daughter loved the story. She was full of smiles through the whole story. I would definitly recommend this story for any young Christian children ages 2-6 yrs old. Parents can use this book as a teaching tool to help answer those questions. Each answer is supported by Scriptures found in the back of the book.

"Hearing Jesus Speak into Your Sorrow" by Nancy Guthrie

>
Italic

Written by Nancy Guthrie

author of Holding on to Hope

Having a child with a life threatening disease has changed my life. Over the past two years I have gone through so many mixed emotions while my daughter was going through so many changes herself. During this time she was diagnosed with a disease that has no cure and was attacking her body. When I saw the title of this book, Hearing Jesus Speak into Your Sorrow, I thought this was the book for me. Even though my daughter is here with me today, I felt a connection with the author, Nancy Guthrie, whom has lost two children. I felt this connection right from the beginning of the book where Nancy writes "The day came when I needed to hear the voice of Jesus in a way I had not heard it before. As I faced the heartbreak of losing my child, I needed to know that he understood the deep pain I was in. That's when I heard Jesus speak to me as the Man of Sorrow, as one who has suffered, as one who knows what it feels like to be crushed by grief to the point that it is squeezing the life out of you." In Hearing Jesus Speak into Your Sorrow, Nancy shines a light on eleven statements Jesus made, mining them for meaning for those who hurt. She does a wonderful job making these statements understandable and meaningful. She pulls you closer to Jesus, which is what many people need during these difficult times. Although I was able to connect with the author and story because of having a child with an illness, I believe this book would be great for those going through many types of grief and sorrow. I remember sitting during Easter mass, just crying, not understanding the things God lets happen in our lives, some of the things that Nancy Guthrie discusses in this book. I have found some true understanding reading Hearing Jesus Speak into Your Sorrow.

Fitness Friday...doing better!

>

Well I am back at it this week. I have been eating better. I still need some work at portion sizes, but have been doing good about healthy snacks and no late night eating! I also have been using my wii fit for exercising...and have managed to get two of my highest scores on hula hooping and boxing! I am also starting to use the break pal while I am at my computer. I havent used it as much as I want to as I got a new laptop and need to put the widget on that computer. I do like it though. It gives you a great reminder to get up and move while you are at the computer. The exercises are pretty good too. Some that I have done have been sitting ones, but still make you feel like you are increasing your heart rate...and getting that metabolism going. I am happy to say that I am on the losing side again also and am down 1 lb this week!

Dont forget about my giveaway going on right now for the Break pal premium membership.

Mommalicious Monday

Well we had a good weekend. Zachary enjoyed his birthday, celebrating with his sisters and his best friends! Thank you Andrea and Lexi for his gifts! I still cant believe he is 5 already!

We spent the weekend playing outside and going school shopping. I was glad to be able to get all the shopping done in just one afternoon. Luckily the twins are not extremely picky having to have only name brand items. We were able to find some decent buys with buy one get one deals and coupons. So we are all done with the school shopping. Tomorrow, Zach goes for his kindergarten roundup. I am so nervous with him starting full day school this year, and that he will be at a completely new school. I am hoping someone from his class last year will be in class with him. I remember being a little nervous with Kennedy, but not as much as I am with Zach. Anyways. They both will start Sept. 2 this year. Kennedy is supposed to start the day before, but she has an infusion that day so will miss it. Oh actually I think she will start on the 3rd because I think I am going to have her not go on Wednesdays. Last year she did Mon, Wed, and Fridays for 2 hours. I think this year I am going to have her go the same times but go Mon, Tue, Thur, and Fridays...adding in an extra day but off Wed so she doesnt get too tired. Also I realized that I will not do more than 2-3 hrs with her. While we were on vacation last week it seemed like she would get very whiney, and shaky if she got overtired. I know last year she had a couple days like that at school too, so I think the time limits are a must for her. Now hopefully we can avoid the flu that is still going around in the area. Kennedy loves going to school and visitting with her classmates...so hopefully there isnt too much illness that she needs to get pulled out this year!
So earlier while I was trying to post, my power went out. It was so quiet in here. We decided to have some fun and got out "TJ Bearytales". He tells/acts out stories and sings with them. As you can tell they really enjoy this! Zach has one of the stories completely memorized. I wish they didnt discontinue this toy! We were lucky to find this one last year on ebay and got it for Kennedys birthday. Now to try to think what to get for this years birthday.

Storytime Sunday: "Cookie"

>
Do you have a picky child? The author of Cookie, Lisa Woomer studied fitness and nutrition as a hobby for many years. She was inspired to write Cookie after the birth of her first child, who turned out to be a very picky eater. "I realized" she said, "that no matter how many times you try to get children to eat healthy foods, they still would rather eat cookies than broccoli". She hopes this story will motivate other children to choose a healthier diet.
The story Cookie is about a cute little girl, called Cookie, that loved cookies! She ate cookies for every meal and refused to eat anything else. Her parents warned her she would one day turn into a big cookie. She still refused to try anything else...until one day she began to change.
This was a cute way of telling children that they need to eat healthy food, to stay healthy. I have a very picky eater. I am hoping this story will point out to him that we need to eat a variety of foods(otherwise I might have a noodle on my hand). I have to say I kind of wanted a cookie at first, until I kept reading. We found the story silly, yet getting the point across. My daughter smiled through the whole story. The title picture, looking like cookies, caught my sons interest! The story's illustrations are cute and look like coloring book pages. These ,as well as the writing style, I think help draw the kids to the story. They are simple and make it seem like the story could have been told by a school child. I think this would make a great story to read during a lesson plan on eating healthy, or just for fun. My two children and I enjoyed this story.

~A special thank you to the author Lisa Woomer for providing the story to review~

Fitness Friday

>

So sorry I havent participated the last couple of weeks. I was on vacation and pretty busy lately. Plus I havent had much to report. I am hoping with school starting soon I will get back on track and start losing more weight again. I was quite happy while shopping recently though as I am out of plus size clothes and can wear regular sizes again! It has been a long long time since that. I still know I have a long way to go though to be where I would like to be. I am going to be using my Wii more and trying to get more exercise in my daily routine. I have also just installed a new widget on my computer called the Break Pal and am hoping this will help remind me to exercise through out the day while I am playing on the computer. I am also hosting a giveaway for this if you would like to try it out.

Break pal, get fit while you sit (giveaway)

>
So we all know how much I have been trying to get into shape. I love that we have video games like the Wii fit to help us that way. I have also been trying to find some new ways to incorporate exercise into my daily routine. Well how about some desk exercises and quick workouts. I have just been introduced to something new, Break pal. What is Break pal?

It's the simple answer to your fitness needs

So here's how it works:

Every 30 minutes (or whatever time interval you set it to go off at) BreakPal will pop up on your computer screen and remind you to exercise. How awesome is that to have those reminders! I know I get sucked into the computer, and then realize a couple hours have passed by.

But that's not all.

The program will then direct you to a video with an exercise of your choice. Exercises vary from simple stretches to whatever. Martial arts aerobics, yoga, Tai Chi, Chi kung and soon all kinds of crazy stuff like belly dancing and Salsa dance. New exercises are added on a continual basis to keep things interesting. No boring office stretches here (unless that's what you want).

But Then It Gets Better

The program is built around a social networking site. You know like facebook or myspace. Except everyone on this social site has one thing in common. Trying to stay in shape while carrying on a busy lifestyle and working a desk job. Everyone here wants the same thing. To get in better shape.

So How Does That Help?

Well, have you ever had a workout buddy? Maybe a walking partner. You were held accountable right? That's what the network does. You know someone else is going to know if you did your workout and they are going to call you on it.

I love accountability...it is this accountability that has gotten me as far as I am! Who doesnt need support and workout buddies! I am always thanking my support group...and would love for them to join me in this!

Every time you view a workout video you get a point (We're just going to assume you did more than just view it right). Your points add up in your profile. But points also expire. So you have to keep it up to keep your points up. Users get points for being a part of the community. Inspiring others. Things like that. All of your buddies can see your points. As a matter of fact those points show up right on your buddies profile page. So it only takes them a second to know what you've been up to.So it may be Olga in Russia, Katariina in Finland, or Alaknanda in India, but someone will know if you did your workout. And they'll let you know they know. The exercises are fun. Something new all the time. You might even learn some new dance moves or how to deliver a proper cobra strike. You'll want to do it because its fun.

Exercises are anywhere from 2-5 minutes, depending upon the desired results. Some are easy. Some are hard.By getting up from your desk and getting a few minutes of exercise, you'll feel better and increase your metabolism. You'll also greatly reduce the strain that sitting at a desk for long periods puts on your body. This will also boost productivity. Exercise always does. You'll get more done in a day by taking a few minutes out every half hour. It's also a well known fact that exercise is cumulative. Exercising for three minutes every thirty minutes for an eight hour work day will give you the same results as doing a forty five minute aerobics class, without driving to the gym.The exercises will work every part of your body. It's really the easiest way I know of to get in shape. Fun, motivating, and a little peer pressure to get things going. this is the answer to your fitness needs. And have a little fun while your at it.

C'mon, Give Your Chair a Break!!!Get started now!

Wonderpets to the rescue :my monkey is turning 5!!!

>
So today I made Zach a wonderpets cape for his bday tomorrow. He found my hiding spot in Kennedys room and came out with it. I cant believe he is going to be 5 already! Where oh where does the time go?!

As you can tell he LOVES Ming Ming!

I have the cake baking right now...and am going to try to make a Ming Ming on the cake with the frosting. I was going to make cupcakes, but he ate the candy I needed for them...so we will try just one on a cake instead.
