Storytime Sunday "Read and Share DVD Bible"

>

We had the opportunity to view the "Read and Share DVD Bible"

thanks to Thomas Nelson Publishing.

During Lent this season I wanted to do more to teach my children about God. This is a tough task with two special needs children. We had the opportunity to do this by watching "Read and Share DVD Bible, volume 1". The dvd has 13 best loved bible stories. The stories are 3 minutes long to help keep the attention of little ones. This also enables you to pick and choose which stories the children watch or to take breaks during the video. My seven year old(who is developmentally disabled) really enjoyed the dvd. It seemed to hold her attention through the whole dvd. She really seemed to enjoy the very cute animations.

My 4 year old was tougher. He seemed to enjoy "the beginning" which illustrated the creation. I think he enjoyed this because he is really into learning the seasons right now. After that he didnt seem very interested. It is difficult to hold his attention. He did come back through different sections and watched some bits and pieces.

I really thought the animation was very cute and although I have not read the "Read and Share Bible" by Gwen Ellis, I can see where they say that the dvd was straight from the pages of the book. The animation looked much like book illustrations. The narrators were good. They spoke very smoothly and clear. The background music was nice, calm in areas, yet suspensful in areas. Some areas moved very nicely from one section to another, like "the beginnings" and "Adam and Eve".

Overall I think the dvd was cute and would be a great tool while teaching your children about the scriptures. I think you could watch different sections while teaching about those specific areas. There also is included some printable coloring pages, which would be cute to include. I think one thing that would have been nice to keep the attention of some children, like my son, would have been to add some songs. My children love trying to sing along, or listening to the choir at mass. One other thing is that I thought was that the dvd had a small storybook included by the title "read and share". This is only a dvd.
